Achieve a Flatter Stomach with Tummy Tuck
Dr. Louis G. Mes, board-certified plastic surgeon, is the area's recognized expert in tummy tucks and other body contouring procedures whom residents in Lafayette, Lake Charles, and the surrounding communities trust for their aesthetic surgery needs.
Sometimes it does not matter how many crunches and sit-up they do every day, some people are not able to get the flat stomach that they want. Both men and women may have a sagging abdomen if they have gone through several cycles of gaining and losing weight while others may find their stomach loses its tone as they age. Women may also find that their stomach does not regain its flat appearance after pregnancy, especially if they had a caesarean section.
If your drooping abdomen bothers you, then you may be a candidate for a tummy tuck. This body contouring procedure removes extra fat that does not seem to go away with diet and exercise, eliminates excess skins, and repairs damaged or weakened stomach muscles. A tummy tuck makes your stomach flatter and smoother so that your clothes look better and you are more comfortable in your bathing suit.
When people in Lafayette, LA ,decide they want to explore a tummy tuck as a way to gain a slimmer profile, they contact Dr.Mes, who is the area's most respected aesthetic surgeon.
Who Is a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
You may be a candidate for a tummy tuck if you have the following characteristics:
- You are bothered by the appearance of your stomach because it is as not as toned as you would like it to be
- Other attempts, such as diet and exercise, are not successful in toning your stomach
- You do not smoke or plan to quit prior to the procedure
- You have realistic goals and expectations
The only way to find out definitively if a tummy tuck is the best body contouring option for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Mes by calling 337-504-4336. Plan on spending 1½ to 2 hours with Dr. Mes to review your medical history, your current health status, the medications and supplements that you take on a regular basis, and your goals for treatment. After completing his evaluation, Dr. Mes will discuss with you the benefits of a tummy tuck and if it is a good option for you.
It is important to note that a tummy tuck is not a substitute for diet and exercise to lose weight.
For patients who want to achieve a moderate enhancement without the need for surgery, Dr. Mes may recommend Bodytite™ treatment. It involves using a special handheld device to melt and remove excess fat tissue while tightening the skin using carefully administered heat energy. Dr. Mes can explain your options during a private consultation.
What Does a Tummy Tuck Involve?
Before Your Surgery
If you currently smoke, you will need to stop several weeks before your surgery is scheduled. If you take aspirin, NSAIDS, or certain medications and herbal supplements, you will need to avoid taking them as they increase the risk of profuse bleeding. Additionally, you will need to arrange for transportation home due to the effects of the anesthesia and sedation.
On the day of your tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Mes's team will prep you for the procedure, and then you will receive either local anesthesia with I.V. sedation or general anesthesia, based upon what you and Dr. Mes decided during your consultation. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Mes will begin performing the tummy tuck procedure.
Dr. Mes starts the procedure by making a horizontal incision in the very lower part of your stomach around the hairline of your pubic area. He will then repair your stomach muscles and remove any extra fat, tissue, and skin. In some cases, he may need to make another incision around your navel to remove excess skin from your upper abdomen. Depending upon your individual situation, he may insert a drain to remove any fluid or blood from the surgical area to reduce swelling and bruising. The final step of the surgery involves closing the incisions and dressing the surgical site. After the tummy tuck is complete, you will be moved to the recovery area for observation as you wake up from the sedation.
After the majority of the anesthesia wears off and Dr. Mes confirms that you are ready, you will be free to go home. He will prescribe pain medications and antibiotics for you to reduce any discomfort and risk of infection. Additionally, you will likely need to wear some form of compression garment to minimize swelling. If your work does not involve strenuous activity, you will be able to return to your job within a few days. Within the first few weeks, any bruising and the majority of the swelling will fade, and you will realize the results of your tummy tuck in a few months.
