What Does a Thigh Lift Involve?
Before Your Surgery
If you currently smoke, you will need to stop several weeks before your surgery is scheduled. If you take aspirin, NSAIDS, or certain medications and herbal supplements, you will need to avoid taking them as they increase the risk of profuse bleeding. Additionally, you will need to arrange for transportation home due to the effects of the anesthesia and sedation.
Typically, thigh lifts are performed on an outpatient basis. On the day of your thigh lift surgery, Dr. Mes's team will prep you for the procedure, and then you will receive either local anesthesia with I.V. sedation or general anesthesia, based upon what you and Dr. Mes decided during your consultation. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Mes will begin performing the thigh lift procedure.
The first step in the procedure involves Dr. Mes making an incision, usually in your groin area. Then he will work to re-contour and tighten the underlying tissues as well as remove excess skin and then pull the skin tight. Depending upon your individual situation, he may insert a drain to remove any fluid or blood from the surgical area to reduce swelling and bruising. The final step of the surgery involves closing the incisions and dressing the surgical site. After the thigh lift is complete, you will be moved to the recovery area for observation as you wake up from the sedation.
After the majority of the anesthesia wears off and Dr. Mes confirms that you are ready, you will be free to go home. He will prescribe pain medications and antibiotics for you to reduce any discomfort and risk of infection. Additionally, you will likely need to wear some form of compression garment to minimize swelling. If your work does not involve strenuous activity, you will be able to return to your job within seven to ten days. During your recovery time at home, you will need to recline or stand as much as you are able. Within the first few weeks, any bruising and the majority of the swelling will fade, and you will realize the results of your thigh lift in a few months.
