Regain a Smooth, Youthful Neck with a Neck Lift
Dr. Louis G. Mes, board-certified plastic surgeon, is the area's recognized expert in neck lift surgery whom residents in Lafayette, Lake Charles, and the surrounding communities trust for their aesthetic surgery needs.
One of the classic symbols of beauty is a long, slim neck; however, the effects of time and gravity can rob you of your youthful lean neck. As we age, the skin in our necks loses its elasticity, so it starts to sag and wrinkle. Additionally, the muscles in our necks weaken so that rings appear around the neck. Fortunately, a neck lift effectively erases these signs of aging so you can regain the long lean neck of your youth so you can put away those scarves and high-necked shirts.
Who Is a Candidate for Neck Lift Surgery?
You may be a candidate for a neck lift if you have the following characteristics:
- Your facial skin and underlying tissue are healthy
- You do not smoke or plan to quit prior to the procedure
- You have realistic goals and expectations
The only way to find out definitively if neck lift surgery is the option for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Mes by calling 337-504-4336. Plan on spending 1½ to 2 hours with Dr. Mes to review your medical history, your current health status, the medications and supplements that you take on a regular basis, and your goals for treatment. After completing his evaluation, Dr. Mes will discuss with you the benefits of neck lift surgery and if it is a good option for you.
What Is Involved in Neck Lift Surgery?
Before Your Surgery
If you currently smoke, you will need to stop several weeks before your surgery is scheduled. If you take aspirin, NSAIDS, or certain medications and herbal supplements, you will need to avoid taking them as they increase the risk of profuse bleeding. Additionally, you will need to arrange for transportation home due to the effects of the anesthesia and sedation.
On the day of your neck lift surgery, Dr. Mes's team will prep you for the procedure, and then you will receive either local anesthesia with I.V. sedation or general anesthesia, based upon what you and Dr. Mes decided during your consultation. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Mes will begin performing the neck lift procedure.
Typically, neck lift surgery takes two to three hours. The first step of the procedure involves Dr. Mes making a small incision under your chin. He then pulls the neck muscles taut and sculpts the tissues in the neck. If necessary, he will remove any excess fat and skin. The final step of the surgery is closing the incisions with sutures or surgical tape and dressing and bandaging the surgical site. You will then be transferred to the recovery area for observation as the effects of the sedative wear off.
After the majority of the anesthesia wears off and Dr. Mes confirms that you are ready, you will be free to go home. He will prescribe pain medications and antibiotics for you to reduce any discomfort and risk of infection. You may need to wear a compression bandage around your neck to reduce swelling. Most patients report they are able to return to work 10 to 14 days after surgery. The majority of the swelling and bruising disappears within a month. During the next few months, you will see the full effects of your neck lift surgery.
Some of the different facial plastic surgery options offered by Dr. Mes include the following:
- Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
- Brow Lift
- Facial Implants
- Fat Injections
- Laceration Repair
- Lip Enhancement
- Ear Surgery (otoplasty)
