Rejuvenate Your Appearance with a Facelift
Dr. Louis G. Mes, board-certified plastic surgeon, is the area's recognized expert in facelift surgery whom residents in Lafayette, Lake Charles, and the surrounding communities trust for their aesthetic surgery needs.
The effects of aging and exposure to the sun and wind eventually take a toll on our faces. Fine lines and wrinkles develop that make us appear older than we actually feel. The most effective way to eliminate these signs of aging is a facelift.
Facelifts tighten the skin and repair damaged or weakened tissues and muscle in your face to correct sagging and loose facial skin as well as on your neck. After a facelift, your face will be rejuvenated, and you will look and feel younger than you did before the surgery. Dr. Mes is Lafayette's leading expert in facelift surgery.
Who Is a Candidate for Facelift Surgery?
You may be a candidate for a facelift if you have the following characteristics:
- Your facial skin and underlying tissue are healthy
- You do not smoke or plan to quit prior to the procedure
- You have realistic goals and expectations
The only way to find out definitively if facelift surgery is the option for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Mes by calling 337-504-4336. Plan on spending 1½ to 2 hours with Dr. Mes to review your medical history, your current health status, the medications and supplements that you take on a regular basis, and your goals for treatment. After completing his evaluation, Dr. Mes will discuss with you the benefits of facelift surgery and if it is a good option for you. Additionally, you and Dr. Mes will decide whether endoscopic or traditional facelift surgical techniques will be used, depending on your facial features.
While surgery is often the best option for addressing signs of aging such as advanced skin laxity, those in need of a subtle enhancement may be eligible for Facetite™ treatment, a less invasive alternative. This sophisticated handheld device can gently remove excess fatty tissue while tightening the skin through the precise application of heat energy. Dr. Mes can help you choose the best approach to facial rejuvenation based on your goals, health history, and other factors.
What Is Involved in Facelift Surgery?
Before Your Surgery
If you currently smoke, you will need to stop several weeks before your surgery is scheduled. If you take aspirin, NSAIDS, or certain medications and herbal supplements, you will need to avoid taking them as they increase the risk of profuse bleeding. Additionally, you will need to arrange for transportation home due to the effects of the anesthesia and sedation.
On the day of your facelift surgery, Dr. Mes's team will prep you for the procedure, and then you will receive either local anesthesia with I.V. sedation or general anesthesia, based upon what you and Dr. Mes decided during your consultation. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Mes will begin performing the facelift procedure.
The first step involves Dr. Mes making an incision within your hairline that starts at your temple, extends to your ear, and then goes around to your lower scalp. Then he will move and sculpt the fat and tissue in your face and reposition the muscles and lift them. The final step in the procedure is closing the incisions with either sutures or skin adhesives.
After the majority of the anesthesia wears off and Dr. Mes confirms that you are ready, you will be free to go home. He will prescribe pain medications and antibiotics for you to reduce any discomfort and risk of infection. Most patients report they are able to return to their regular routine a couple of weeks after surgery. The majority of the swelling and bruising disappears within a month. During the next few months, you will see the full effects of your facelift surgery.
Some of the different facial plastic surgery options offered by Dr. Mes include the following:
- Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
- Brow Lift
- Neck Lift
- Facial Implants
- Fat Injections
- Laceration Repair
- Lip Enhancement
- Ear Surgery (otoplasty)
