Gain a More Youthful Look with a Breast Lift
Dr. Louis G. Mes, board-certified plastic surgeon, is the area's recognized expert in breast lift surgery whom residents in Lafayette, Lake Charles, and the surrounding communities trust for their aesthetic surgery needs.
If you are like many women, the effects of time, pregnancy and breastfeeding, and gravity have taken a toll on your breasts, causing them to sag and droop. Another effect of aging on your breasts is that the pigmented area around your nipple, called the areola, may become enlarged. Breast lift surgery provides women who are bothered by the shape and firmness of their breasts an option that allows them to regain the youthful position of their breasts. In Lafayette and Lake Charles, most women turn to Dr. Mes when they decide to explore breast lift surgery as a solution to their dissatisfaction with the appearance of their breasts.
Who Is Eligible for Breast Lift Surgery?
While the only way to know that breast lift surgery is an option for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr.Mes, you are likely a candidate for breast lift surgery if you have the following characteristics:
- You are self-conscious about the position of your breasts
- You do not smoke
- You have and plan to maintain a stable weight
- Your nipples fall below your breast crease
- You are in reasonably good health
- You have a realistic expectation about the outcome of the surgery
When you schedule a consultation with Dr. Mes to determine if you are eligible for breast lift surgery, plan to spend about 1½ to 2 hours with him. During this time, he will review your medical history with you, discuss any current medical concerns and conditions, and explore your goals and expectations for breast lift surgery. If both of you agree that a breast lift is the best option for you, he will provide you with instructions as to what you need to do to prepare for surgery and discuss the different choices for anesthesia during the procedure, what he plans to do during your surgery, and what you can expect after the operation.

What Does Breast Lift Surgery Involve?
Before Your Surgery
If you currently smoke, you will need to stop several weeks before your surgery is scheduled. If you take aspirin, NSAIDS, or certain medications and herbal supplements, you will need to avoid taking them as they increase the risk of profuse bleeding. In some cases, Dr. Mes may require you to have a baseline mammogram. Additionally, you will need to arrange for transportation home from the surgical center or hospital due to the effects of the anesthesia.
One the day of your surgery, the surgical team will prep you for the procedure, and then you will receive either local anesthesia with I.V. sedation or general anesthesia, based upon what you and Dr. Mes decided during your consultation. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Mes will make an incision around the dark area of your breast surrounding the nipple and, in some cases, extend the incision down to the breast crease and across it. Then Dr. Mes will reshape and lift the tissue within the breast, reposition the nipple and areola, and remove any extra skin. Once he completes re-contouring your breast, he may place a drain to remove any excess fluid in the breast, and then he closes the incisions with sutures and applies dressings. You will then be moved to a recovery area.
Once the majority of the anesthesia wears off and Dr. Mes clears you for discharge and gives you prescriptions for pain medications and antibiotics, you can go home. Most women report the medication eliminates any discomfort and that they find they no longer need the medication after a couple of days. You will need to wear a support bra 24 hours a day while your breasts heal. Typically, you can return to work a week after surgery, resume light exercises within two weeks, and resume strenuous exercise after four to six weeks. Dr. Mes will schedule a follow-up visit with you to remove the dressings and to provide you with any other recommendations to facilitate your recovery.
How Soon Will I See the Results of My Breast Lift Surgery?
You will see your new figure immediately after surgery. Most patients find that the post-operative swelling disappears within weeks, and the incision scars gradually fade so that they are hardly noticeable.
Some of the other breast enhancement options offered by Dr. Mes include the following:
- Breast Augmentation
- Breast Implants
- Breast Reconstruction
- Breast Reduction
- Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)
- Breast Asymmetry Correction
